Bërsërk's first album, 'The Nocturnal Flame' tell a story about a young, made up God named Nocturnal who is brought into this world full of curiosity. The albums first track (Fødselen Av En Ny Tidsalder) symbolises Nocturnals solitary birth as being pleasant and calm. Near the end of the track, the music grows louder and hard to listen. This symbolises Nocturnal's emotion as being somewhat 'overwhelmed' by the damage this world has experienced. The albums final track, (Et Evig Livs Fall) is a dizzy, distorted piano instrumental which symbolises Nocturnal can no longer endure the pain which leads to suicide.
